Clipping the wings

Allowing your bird unrestricted freedom at home can be dangerous. They can injure themselves, eat plants or other items that are toxic, or even escape. Parrots can also cause significant damage to furniture and other household items by chewing on them. Our recommendation is clipping the flying feathers of the wings. The goal of trimming the wings is not to make the bird totally incapable of flight, but to prevent it from developing rapid and sustained flight.

It is a good idea to check the feathers eight to twelve weeks after the start of a molt cycle in order to keep them at a safe length.
