Parasite Checks and Deworming

  • Puppies: Parasite examination should be performed at intervals recommended by your veterinarian, usually 2-3 times during puppy hood.  Appropriate Deworming medication will be prescribed after parasites are identified..

  • Adult: Should have parasite test done at least once a year.  We request a fresh stool sample for the test.


Core Vaccinations




Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2 &
Parvovirus (D.A.P.)
 

D.A.P. Vaccine protects your dog from Canine Distemper,Canine Hepatitis , Canine Parvovirus and  Canine Respiratory Disease Complex. Some of these diseases can be spread by wild animals such as skunks, foxes & raccoons, as well as unvaccinated dogs, D.A.P .is  a Modified  live vaccine given subcutaneously.


                 The protocol for puppy vaccinations will be tailored  by your veterinarian for each puppy, depending of the history of previous vaccines ,or kind of vaccine given by the breeder or Pet Store. In general...


    • Puppy1  can be given as early as 6 weeks of age, followed by
    • Puppy2 should begiven 3-4 weeks later.
      Booster a year later
    As an adult your dog will need D.A.P. booster every 3 years.



       

      Rabies Vaccination


      In Florida, current rabies vaccination is required by law for ALL Dogs, Cats & Ferrets over 12 weeks of age....


      • Puppies: Initial vaccination as early as 12 weeks  of age, followed by...
      • Adult: Annual Booster
      • Booster every 3 years

          In Florida, County  Annual Licensing is required for ALL dogs.

          The Brevard County License fee for a spayed/neutered dog is $10  and $16 for non-spayed/neutered adult.t dogs (it is also $10 for Puppies and kittens under one year of age ).  At the time of vaccination, a certificate & envelope will be provided for you to mail in or apply in person for your county license.


          Non-Core Vaccines


          Bordetella Vaccination (Kennel Cough)


          This vaccine protects against Canine Parainfluenza & Bordetella Bronchiseptica, it is required by kennels for boarding, and is strongly recommended for dogs who are in obedience classes or grooming on a regular basis.  Kennel Cough is an airborne virus and is usually transmitted in crowded situations.  The vaccine is a Modified live virus, Avirulent live culture & it is given
          intranasally.


          • Puppies: Initial vaccination as early as 3 weeks,booster 3 weeks later, then
          • Adult: Annual booster


            Leptospirosis

            This vaccine is recommended for pets that live on a farm, pets that swim at ponds or lakes, pets that go camping or that drink water from unsafe sources. This vaccine induce immunity against four kinds of  Leptospira: L.Canicola,L. Grippotyphosa, L. Icterohaemorrhagiae & L. Pomona. High risk pets should be vaccinated as follow... 
            • Puppies 9 -12 weeks of age first dose
            • Booster 3-4 weeks later
            • Annual Booster




            • Lyme Disease Vaccination

              The Lyme disease vaccination is not required in Florida, but we highly recommend it for
              pets that are moving or visiting Northern areas of the country.  Lyme Disease is
              transmitted by a certain species of tick, found North of Florida.
                




              Heartworm Check 

               At Aloha, we test for heartworm disease once a year(Occult antigen test), all dogs should be on a heartworm preventative program, it can be a once a month chewable(Heartguard®) or topical once a month application of Revolution®.
                In Florida we suggest year-round prevention; discuss what prevention options are available with our staff.  Heartworm is transmitted by mosquitoes and has been reported in all areas of the United States.


              Spaying or Neutering

              At 6 months to 1 year of age as recommended by your Veterinarian.

                 Brevard County Animal Services is offering a $25 rebate to resident owners who have spayed / neutered their dogs within 30 days post surgery.
