 Puppy proofing your house

Puppies are curious creatures. Just as with human babies, puppies put everything in their mouths. It is up to you to keep them safe and out of trouble. Keep obvious dangers out of reach like electrical cords, poisons, cleaners, anti-freeze, insect baits, etc. Nothing tastes bad enough to a puppy!

Make sure their toys are safe. No broken pieces or ripped up squeaky toys. No rawhide that can be swallowed in big chunks. Avoid rope toys that can become shredded. If ingested these can cause intestinal blockages that would require surgical treatment. Inspect toys often and throw away small pieces. Do not give them old shoes to play with. They will not know the difference between old and new shoes!

Get on the floor and give your home a pup's eye view. Check for loose tacks, paper clips, anything that might look inviting to him. Remember you are the adult. You are the responsible one in the pack. They do not know the rules until you teach them.
