Entropion
Entropion is a very uncomfortable condition caused by the turning in of the lid toward the eye in such a way that the hair of the lid apposes the cornea and bulbar conjunctiva. This condition predisposes the conjunctiva and /or cornea to irritation, ulceration and, if complicated, corneal perforation. Entropion can be congenital or acquired. Predisposed breeds include the Chow Chow, Bloodhound, Labrador retriever, English bulldog, Doberman pinscher, Chesapeake Bay retriever, St. Bernard, Rottweiler, Poodle, Irish Setter, and Shar Pei (puppies show be check early for this condition).
The most common presentation is the lower lid, but upper lid and medial entropion are also frequent. Entropion is corrected surgically, by removing excess of skin of the affected eyelid, the results are immediate and recovery is fast.
