Enucleation is indicated when the eye is painful, such as in severe glaucoma ,severe traumatic injury of the eye or intraocular tumors. The goal of this surgery  is alleviate pain, resolve an untreatable medical disease, prevent further or additional complications and provide the most aesthetic appearance possible. The prognosis is excellent especially when all secretory tissues are removed.
