Rabbit Neuter (Orchidectomy)
Castration in rabbit will help tremendously to avoid the urine "marking" behavior, possessiveness and aggressiveness they show when they are intact. Rabbit's testicles can move freely between the scrotum and the abdominal cavity through and opening in the inguinal canal.
The procedure is done under gas anesthesia, the scrotum area is shaved and cleaned and prepared for surgery. A small skin incision in the scrotum will allowed the surgeon to removed each testicle , ligating the spermatic cord and its vessels to prevent hemorrhages and placing it back in the inguinal canal. Surgical glue is used to close the skin incisions so there is no need to remove stitches. Sometimes the veterinarian will advise to keep him overnight to assure cage rest and avoid complications. Testosterone levels will gradually decrease and so the "male-testosterone induce" behavior.
